“And he said to me, ‘Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.’”
Think About It
He was so tired of the rat race. An overworked executive was looking for a remote cabin where he could just be by himself and relax. He finally found the perfect cabin that had been abandoned for many years, and nothing could be seen for miles around. He bought the property and was so excited for his first getaway that he moved a few of his possessions to the cabin before renovation. He was enjoying the quietness when he heard some noise out on the front porch. He went to the door, expecting to see a wild animal of some kind. Instead, he saw some people dressed in pilgrim outfits sitting in the rocking chairs on his front porch. He cautiously approached them and asked who they were and why they were there, and they replied that they were angels. They had been waiting on the porch with nothing to do for years. Now they were so excited that someone was finally back at the old cabin so they would have something to keep them busy.
I’m not sure I have the story exactly right. I don’t even remember where I heard it or whether it was supposed to be true or not. But the point stuck with me. There is a spiritual realm all around me that I can’t see. It’s a supernatural realm with more power than I can imagine, and what happens in that spiritual realm is directly related to what happens in the natural realm where I live. God has angels to do jobs for Him, and I don’t want my angels just sitting around like they don’t have anything to do. But what activates the angels?
The angels do what God tells them to do, and sometimes God sends them because we humble ourselves before God and reach out to Him. This happened in chapter 10 of Daniel. The angel came to Daniel after Daniel reached out to God. The angel had to fight his way through the demons in the spiritual realm, and call for backup, but he finally made it to Daniel.
God is sovereign, but He isn’t the only one at work in the world. If He was, it would be a perfect world. Sometimes He’s waiting for a little cooperation from us. Sometimes He’s waiting for us to recognize that He is I AM. And when we call on Him, He responds. He sends help.
I wonder how many accidents my angel has kept away from me. How many times were my accidents not as bad as they could have been because an angel intervened? How many blessings have come my way because an angel put them there? I may not be able to see the spiritual realm, but I know it’s real, and I want on the right side. The side of good and not evil.
I want to trust in a sovereign God who knows how to fight the battles that need to be fought, even the ones I can’t see. I want the angels around me to be busy on my behalf, and for my good.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank you for being ready to step into my life when I give You the proper place of I AM. I pray that Your angels will protect me and surround me, and please keep them always busy working on my behalf and for my good.
In the name of Jesus, Amen
